The objective of the exercise was to pick a shape and gather as much packaging, material , as you can and create the shape as many times as you can in an hour.

Process

  • Think of a simple shape you're comfortable making (star ,heart , skull )

  • Try to create at least 30 versions of that shape in the next hour , using the materials you've collected. this is definetly about quantity over quality. Don't try for perfection. Just make it and move on to the next thing . If you find yourself stuck, move on to another material.

  • Document each item as you finish so that you can reuse parts of it as you move forward if need be .

  • after an hour , note how you felt during the exercise and the things you learned about yourself in the process: how do you process and respond to a creative problem? are you relaxed? resourceful? or , fearful? cynical? agitated?

The shape I chose to create was a snake like shape or a sausage. I brought some coloured paper that I had left over to use.

Things I learned and felt

I really enjoyed this exercise. I really like to come up with ideas on the spot and always love the challenege especially with a time limit. The shape i chose was very simple but I could have a bit of fun with it and it felt like I was in junior Infants just making weird things. It was almost child like just grabbing materials and making without a second thought. I enjoyed the exercise but I was a little stressed , after the first few I started to slowly hit a wall . It was like running a marathon and I began sprinting . Overall I enjoyed the freedom of work but felt a bit stressed having to come up with many ideas.
